VIRGINIA BEACH – Peggy Joyce Wilcox Cullifer, 80, passed away June 2010 in Chesapeake.
A native of Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Bessie Wilcox and the widow of Willis Neal Cullifer. She retired from the City of Virginia Beach, Finance Department after 17 years of service. She was president of the National Association for the Alliance of the Mentally Ill for 20 years. She was an avid bridge and mahjong player.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lee Garcia of Norfolk; two sons, William Neal Cullifer and wife Janet of Chesapeake and Eric Gregory Cullifer and wife Georgia of Virginia Beach; a sister, Nellie Mae Sprouse of Roanoke; a brother, Herbert T. “Butch” Wilcox and wife Mary Ann of Rocky Mount, Va.; four grandchildren, Christopher and wife Melissa, Michael and Shannon Cullifer and Michael Garcia; two great-grandchildren, Keagan and Sage Cullifer; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters- in- law, Delores Snead and husband Tom and Diane Kemp and very good friends: Anne Hatcher, Jean Williams, and Nancy Proffitt and husband James. She was predeceased by her grandchild, Jennifer Lee Franks; two sisters, Mary Jane Yates and Margaret Yates; and her brother, Billy Wilcox.
A funeral will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel. The burial will follow in Willowwood Cemetery, Sandbridge, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
